Philosophy
Dr. Kabbas-May currently serves as Instructor of Clarinet and Saxophone at Northwest Florida State College, and has been teaching woodwinds in private, group, and clinic settings since 2008. As an educator, Dr. Kabbas-May's primary objective is to aid students in becoming creative, healthy musicians who are capable of becoming independent of a private instructor. She approaches each student as an individual, and strives to discover and compliment each individual’s learning style in the way that best serves their development as a musician and as a person. Although individual needs vary widely, several elements remain central to her teaching: technical fundamentals, musicality, and personal health. She incorporates each of these elements into each lesson based on individual needs, developing students’ confidence in the fundamentals of their instrument, encouraging them to think critically and creatively about music, to experiment and express themselves, and to consider their overall well-being while at the instrument.

For those looking to compete and/or pursue musical careers, Dr. Kabbas-May also serves as a mentor, offering competition preparation and career advice to her students.
